Without considering the typicality of a historical experience, we can misunderstand the past. In this lesson, students examine several headlines about students today and discuss whether each experience is typical or atypical. Students will then analyze several historical documents to learn about the historical figure Austin Dabney and reason about how typical his experience was for soldiers and veterans of the Revolutionary War.
