After President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, Tule Lake was established as one of several relocation centers in 1942 for Japanese Americans. Later, Tule Lake became a “segregation center,” which involved heightened policing. In 1943, workers at Tule Lake went on strike, which garnered national attention and led to an Army occupation of the camp.
